CODE Framework

A practical framework for building internal tools that put humans first

For AI-centric products, we use SPARK as a tactical framework within CODE

This playbook guides teams building internal enterprise tools, especially when AI is used as a co-pilot. It includes the CODE framework, SPARK sprint method, templates, and metrics. It provides guidance to form the initial rationale and business case to craft the IOM. NOTE: This playbook is an MVP prototype and the AI recommendations are not yet implemented or tested for real.

CODE Framework:

  • Core Flow: Define user's essential task
  • Opportunities to Assist: Identify friction points
  • Decision Support: Suggest without taking over
  • Edge Cases: Flag risks or escalate to humans

SPARK Sprint (Inside CODE):

  • Signal: What data triggers the AI?
  • Processing: How does AI process it?
  • Action: What action does the AI take?
  • Reward: What value does it provide?
  • Known Limits: Where AI must stop

RICE Framework:

  • Reach: How many people will this impact?
  • Impact: How much will this impact each person?
  • Confidence: How confident are we in our estimates?
  • Effort: How much work will this require?
